"1 Lunatic 1 Ice Pick" is our musical interpretation of the video that was uploaded to the internet showing the dismemberment and other violations of Jun Lin's body. It was actually scored to the video. I downloaded it and watched it while I recorded all the guitar and vocal parts. So what you are hearing is my interpretation and reaction to what is happening on screen. Compositionally speaking, it's a free-form dirge created with a bass that is slowly being detuned (to represent the body being torn a part) and a 2nd more abrasive or sharp bass track representing the actions of the killer (knife cuts, sex acts, ect). The vocals are a series of moans, screams, and other guttural noises which were inspired by the "Plague Mass" work of Diamanda Galas. All of this was improvised and recorded in a series of singular takes. It was an exhausting process mentally, and I was haunted by images for days after.
